Along Velika voda

reka reka vodilna The Reka River, which has carved out a gorge, collapsed dolines and the Škocjan caves at the point where impermeable rock comes up against the limestone plateau of the Karst, rises under the plateau of Snežnik. Along its path it collects water from numerous tributaries, and after flowing more than 50 km along the surface it disappears into the mysterious world below ground at the biggest sinkhole in Slovenia.

timava It reappears from springs along the coastline, even in the 40 kilometredistant springs of the Timavo, near Duino/Devin in Italy. With heavy precipitation it can grow quickly and strongly, and this has given it the name Velika voda [lit. Big Water].
