The Švarcenek castle

Less common are the settlements in the side valleys that furrow the Brkini slopes. Along the Sušica stream, which rises under the highest hilltop and along which a nice walking trail is laid out, huddle Potok and Podgrad pri Vremah, where the ruins of Švarcenek Castle lie hidden.

It is first mentioned in the 11th century, when its masters were the Aquileia patriarchs. More than 600 years later, under the stewardship of the Pettazzi barons, the castle burned down, and then it was torn apart by rebellious peasants.
