The hidden face of the Karst

jama -most At Gornje Vreme the Reka flows from impermeable flysch onto hard, but permeable limestone, which over millions of years has been dissolved by the water which altered both the surface and underground environs. Over the years, the river has even changed its course underground. The older, higher parts of its subterranean course are now dry caves, such as Divaška jama, while in some caverns the ceilings have fallen in to produce picturesque collapsed dolines or sinkholes, and through the youngest part of the cave system (Škocjanske jame, Kačna jama) the Velika Voda still runs today.
